Who’s Writing This?!?

I AM!  My name is Alison. I live in New York City and practice - nearly every day! - at Bikram Yoga NYC. They have four studios, and there are about 87 of us named Alison, so even if you live in NYC and practice there, you’ll probably never find me. But if you do, you should totally say HI! I would love to meet you!

I manage a dental office for money, and I write and do comedy for fun (and sometimes money). I also pole dance! I DO NOT do that for money, but totally would—WHO WANTS TO HIRE ME?! I used to teach Vinyasa yoga, and still do now and again! Before that, I was an opera singer. And an actor. Then a pastry chef. Then a professional ballroom dancer. Then I taught ballet and jazz to kids for a while. These are all long stories, but I’ll tell them to you sometime over drinks. I prefer mojitos and mai tais to martinis, and I’m OBSESSED with tiki bars. There’s just something, I don’t know, MAGICAL about those little paper umbrellas…

For more info on me you can click the links below. If you wanna chat, feel free to leave questions/comments in my “Ask Box”. If you can’t tell, I LOVE to talk about yoga, so hit me up anytime!

Meanwhile, here’s my fancy-pantsy professional bio, written to sound more impressive for your enjoyment in the third person! CLASSY!

Alison O’Connor is a writer, comedian, and performer living in New York City. Her writing has been featured in The New York Times, Elephant Journal, and a number of other less-prestigious sounding publications, online journals, and blogs.

As a performer, Alison trained in longform improvisation at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City, and in musical improvisation with the legendary Chicago-based super-group Baby Wants Candy. She currently performs improv, musical improv, and even a little freestyle rap (yes, really!) at comedy venues and basement theaters around the city. She also flirts with doing stand-up comedy, but they haven’t officially started dating yet.

In addition to “It’s A Party, Not A Picnic”, Alison writes about Bikram, ‘hot yoga’, and pretty much whatever else she feels like for Elephant Journal online.  She also hapazardly updates her personal blog, ‘AOC in NYC’ with details of her many and colorful experiences living and working in the greatest city in the world.

As if ALL THAT wasn’t enough, Alison is also hard at work on her first book, which has recently been acquired for publication by OCA publishing.

When not making fart jokes, writing snarky non-fiction, or working at her high-profile, ultra-glamorous office management job, Alison can be found studying the extremely classy art of contemporary pole dance, belting out showtunes at karaoke bars throughout Manhattan, or chugging a green juice while waiting for the R train.

Alison prefers parties over picnics any day of the week.
